I just baked my friend Julia a cake for her birthday. It's Saturday, but because of the way my schedule is this week, I had to bake the cake today. It tastes so good! It's totally vegan. Chocolate with vanilla frosting, and totally made from scratch. But! It looks like crap. I let the cakes cool for what I felt was a sufficient amount of time before removing them from their pans, but the one that was to go on top cracked. A lot. And on top of that, the vanilla frosting slid all over the place. At first it looked like everything was going to be fine. But then slowly, it started to slide. So, the cake looks bad but it tastes good. Better than the other way around, I guess? This was also my first experience with coconut oil. You buy it in a jar and its consistency is the same as candle wax. I had no idea. I am such an amateur baker. I made the biggest mess, but it's all cleaned up now and I had fun. And Julia gets a homemade birthday cake, the main ingredient being love!
Happy birthday, Julia!
some of the ugliest and sad looking cakes are often the tastiest of them all.
