for the love of broccoli
I love broccoli. My favorite way to consume it is raw, my second favorite being lightly steamed and buttered. For years now, whenever I eat broccoli, my stomach kills me. I could eat a whole head of broccoli if my stomach would allow it. You might be asking yourself why I continue to eat this vegetable if it makes me feel so terrible. I ask myself the same thing, and the answer is always the same: I really do just love it that much. And it's super nutrient dense. Just an hour or so ago I put added a little bit of broccoli to a deliciously green salad I made, and within minutes of finishing it, the pain began. What is the deal?! It just doesn't make sense. People with broccoli allergies have reactions such as itchy & swollen mouth, respiratory issues, vomiting, red cheeks, etc (I have none of these symptoms). There's also such a thing as a sensitivity to salicylates, which are found in broccoli, but also in oodles of other vegetables and even some nuts. Nothing bothers me besides broccoli. I guess I'll just have to stop eating broccoli. Whether it's an allergy, a sensitivity or just something I've made up in my mind, it really just doesn't make me feel good and that's all I need to know. Waaaaaaaaaaaaaa! :(

love

I love Rumi quotes. This one really speaks to me. If you read my blog or know me well, you know that nobody could ever accuse me of being out of touch with my soul. Not a chance.
"My soul is from elsewhere, I'm sure of that, and I intend to end up there."
Also, while looking through Shannon's photos on facebook, I came across the one above. I 'liked' it three months ago when she initially posted it, but I more than like it, and I want to share it with you as well. By the way Shannon, all of your photos from this trip are so way cool!

due date
Keith and I went on a date last night. To the Laurelhurst Theater. We saw Due Date. I had no idea that it would be so funny. We laughed out loud. LOL'd. I love that theater. Cheap movies ($3), really good beers, Keith says their pizza is amazing, and last night I had a veggie wrap that had so much organic spinach wrapped up inside. It was divine. And it was $4.50. What would you get for $4.50 at a Regal, or some other big theater? A fun sized Snickers bar. Maybe. It was directed by Todd Philips. He also directed The Hangover, which is a classic favorite of mine. I look forward to this coming to the Redbox so I can watch it again. And again.

apartment hunting
So Keith and I are looking for a new place to call home. I have very mixed feelings about this because I feel pretty happy where we are. I have lived in this apartment for almost two years and it's all I've known since I moved to Portland. The only thing I don't like about it, and it happens to be a pretty big deal, is the lack of parking. Don't get me started. Keith wants to move to the east side, and today we drove around the Laurelhurst neighborhood in search of 'For Rent' signs. We didn't have a whole lot of luck. The thing I will miss the absolute most about living in this apartment is its proximity to YoYoYogi.
Speaking of YoYoYogi, I didn't go today. I took two classes Sunday and two classes yesterday and my body has asked for a rest. I taught this morning and will be teaching three classes tomorrow, as well as teaching two more classes and taking a trip to the mountain on Thursday. I feel guilty for not going but I think my body will thank me tomorrow.
I have a load of laundry that I've putting off for the past few days, which has now probably evolved into two loads of laundry. Sometimes I just don't feel like walking downstairs to do it! A washer and dryer in our next apartment would be a big perk.
I think I will go tackle some of that laundry while it is still relatively early. It's 7:21pm and I already feel like going to bed. Or maybe I only feel like going to bed because I feel like, "I fell asleep" would be a great excuse to skip the laundry? Hmm.

christmas photos
continued...
I'm back to share my travel plans!
Yoga was really fun this morning. I didn't really feel like going. I have to blow my nose a lot and I don't have much of a voice, but I thought it might help me feel better if I went back to class. When my forehead came into contact with the mat during child's pose I thought I was going to have to leave, but I pushed through and am so glad that I did. Tonight I will go back for anusara yoga at 5:30. The class is 75 minutes, the first third is chanting, second third is anusara-based asana and the last part is restorative. Mmmm! This will be only the second time I've gotten to take this class because we've been snowboarding every Sunday. I am really looking forward to it.
I tend not to make New Years resolutions because I think they're stupid. Not for you, but for me. My mentality is, why put off what you can do right now? Not about everything (laundry, cleaning, things like that do not apply to this rule), but about things that will better myself, such as more yoga, more vegetables, more time at the gym, etc. Do you ever hear those people who say, "I'm going to start my diet on Monday" as they steadily shove cookies in their mouths? It doesn't have to be cookies, but you get what I'm saying. When it comes to things like that, along with quitting smoking, I say just do it now. There is no time like the present. So if I were to make a resolution, I'd make it something pretty unimportant. Like I might say I'll try to blog more or something. Resolution made! I will try to blog more.
Have a blessed day, friends!

- Trip to Virginia for Tonya & Matt's wedding reception
- Possible visit from Ben & Dana with lots of traveling involved. (Ashland, Crater Lake, Oregon Coast, San Francisco?, Seattle?, Hood River, Vancouver BC?)
- Crater Lake camping trip round two with John & Julia
- Visit from my mother and father
- Visit from Scott & Becky (Keith's sister and brother in-law)
- Visit from Denise (Keith's mom)
- Maybe another trip to Timberline Lodge for Keith's 31st birthday

2011
I've got a feeling this is going to be my best year yet. I plan to fill this year with yoga, snowboarding and traveling. I guess this vision really started in the last couple months of 2010 when I bought an unlimited membership to YoYoYogi, a season lift pass for SkiBowl and a snowboard. So far I have probably taken 50 yoga classes since the middle of November, and if you were to include the classes I taught it would be closer to 100- and I've been snowboarding five times since the season started on December 1.
I've decided that I am 25, married to an equally free spirit and totally childless. This is my time to do all the things I want to do! I'm looking forward to so much this year.
For one, I feel like my career is moving in a beautiful direction. When I moved here I was teaching two classes a week, and now (after almost two years) I am up to nine (as of 1/4/11). I feel like my hard work is finally starting to pay off. My personal practice has really blossomed recently and I feel inspired every single day.
Snowboarding is a fairly new thing for me. I went once at Wintergreen in Virginia in 2007 and it was a mess. The snow was fake and it was quite icy. Not to mention it was a holiday weekend and the mountain- scratch that, let's call it a hill- was packed with people who didn't know what they were doing. Being that I didn't know how to stop, I would get up, ride a few feet and have to drop to the ground when I felt like I was building too much speed or someone was sitting on their ass right in front of me. Eventually I caught an edge, was flung forward and had the breath knocked out of me. Stars were seen and I took a ride to first aid courtesy of Ski Patrol. Even though that happened, I still knew that I liked the idea of snowboarding. I'm more of a mountain girl than a beach girl and probably always have been. I think I got that from my daddy. But anyway, I always felt like snowboarding would require too much time, energy and $$$. It wasn't until I moved to Oregon that I went again. Keith and I spend two nights at Timberline Lodge last January and that was my next attempt at snowboarding. I did much better and felt like it was something I could really get into. Months later, I decided I was going to buy a season lift pass and go as many times as I could for the 2010-2011 season. It's been a lot of fun so far! Keith and I have gone a few times in between my yoga classes and I've also gone twice on a Monday night with Sarah. It's so cool to be able to throw my board in the car and drive the hour to Mt. Hood, ride for a couple of hours and come back home. I've definitely had a few a-ha moments on the mountain so far. Sometimes I get pissed off, really pissed off, if I fall while getting off the lift or fall while trying something new, and if I fall and can't get back up (this happened many times one night while it was raining and the snow was a slushy mess), then I really get irritated, but it's all worth it. There's nothing like riding the lift by yourself, nobody else around, and taking in the amazing sights, clean air and silence. Feels like something I could do every day.
It's time for me to go to yoga. I hope to pick up where I left off later today and talk about my travel plans, but my blogging efforts have been more focused on yogaseedpdx recently, so we'll see if that actually happens.
HAPPY 2011!
