2011

I've got a feeling this is going to be my best year yet. I plan to fill this year with yoga, snowboarding and traveling. I guess this vision really started in the last couple months of 2010 when I bought an unlimited membership to YoYoYogi, a season lift pass for SkiBowl and a snowboard. So far I have probably taken 50 yoga classes since the middle of November, and if you were to include the classes I taught it would be closer to 100- and I've been snowboarding five times since the season started on December 1.

I've decided that I am 25, married to an equally free spirit and totally childless. This is my time to do all the things I want to do! I'm looking forward to so much this year.

For one, I feel like my career is moving in a beautiful direction. When I moved here I was teaching two classes a week, and now (after almost two years) I am up to nine (as of 1/4/11). I feel like my hard work is finally starting to pay off. My personal practice has really blossomed recently and I feel inspired every single day.

Snowboarding is a fairly new thing for me. I went once at Wintergreen in Virginia in 2007 and it was a mess. The snow was fake and it was quite icy. Not to mention it was a holiday weekend and the mountain- scratch that, let's call it a hill- was packed with people who didn't know what they were doing. Being that I didn't know how to stop, I would get up, ride a few feet and have to drop to the ground when I felt like I was building too much speed or someone was sitting on their ass right in front of me. Eventually I caught an edge, was flung forward and had the breath knocked out of me. Stars were seen and I took a ride to first aid courtesy of Ski Patrol. Even though that happened, I still knew that I liked the idea of snowboarding. I'm more of a mountain girl than a beach girl and probably always have been. I think I got that from my daddy. But anyway, I always felt like snowboarding would require too much time, energy and $$$. It wasn't until I moved to Oregon that I went again. Keith and I spend two nights at Timberline Lodge last January and that was my next attempt at snowboarding. I did much better and felt like it was something I could really get into. Months later, I decided I was going to buy a season lift pass and go as many times as I could for the 2010-2011 season. It's been a lot of fun so far! Keith and I have gone a few times in between my yoga classes and I've also gone twice on a Monday night with Sarah. It's so cool to be able to throw my board in the car and drive the hour to Mt. Hood, ride for a couple of hours and come back home. I've definitely had a few a-ha moments on the mountain so far. Sometimes I get pissed off, really pissed off, if I fall while getting off the lift or fall while trying something new, and if I fall and can't get back up (this happened many times one night while it was raining and the snow was a slushy mess), then I really get irritated, but it's all worth it. There's nothing like riding the lift by yourself, nobody else around, and taking in the amazing sights, clean air and silence. Feels like something I could do every day.

It's time for me to go to yoga. I hope to pick up where I left off later today and talk about my travel plans, but my blogging efforts have been more focused on yogaseedpdx recently, so we'll see if that actually happens.

HAPPY 2011!
