for the love of broccoli
I love broccoli. My favorite way to consume it is raw, my second favorite being lightly steamed and buttered. For years now, whenever I eat broccoli, my stomach kills me. I could eat a whole head of broccoli if my stomach would allow it. You might be asking yourself why I continue to eat this vegetable if it makes me feel so terrible. I ask myself the same thing, and the answer is always the same: I really do just love it that much. And it's super nutrient dense. Just an hour or so ago I put added a little bit of broccoli to a deliciously green salad I made, and within minutes of finishing it, the pain began. What is the deal?! It just doesn't make sense. People with broccoli allergies have reactions such as itchy & swollen mouth, respiratory issues, vomiting, red cheeks, etc (I have none of these symptoms). There's also such a thing as a sensitivity to salicylates, which are found in broccoli, but also in oodles of other vegetables and even some nuts. Nothing bothers me besides broccoli. I guess I'll just have to stop eating broccoli. Whether it's an allergy, a sensitivity or just something I've made up in my mind, it really just doesn't make me feel good and that's all I need to know. Waaaaaaaaaaaaaa! :(
